MARCHING BAND UNIFORM POLICY
The Marching Band Uniform consists of a marching WHITE jacket and BLACKpants, white gloves, black socks, and hat (all provided by the school),and marching shoes (provided by the parent)
1. There will be no jewelry allowed except for stud earrings and classrings. This means no bracelets, necklaces, gauge earrings, etc. If theearring cannot be taken out, then it will be covered up with a band-aid.
2. All long hair (hair below the collar) will be worn up as to providea uniform appearance (this includes guys and girls). It would be veryhelpful if the hair could be up when you come to school to go tofootball games and/or competitions. The only exception to the long hairbeing up is when you will be wearing the summer marching uniform (blueshorts, band T-Shirt, black socks, and marching shoes).
3. No fingernail polish will be allowed.
4. The white gloves provided with the Marching Uniform must be keptwhite! They can be machine washed and dried. They should be washedafter each weekend of football games and/or competitions. If you takecare of them during the season, then the gloves will last all season.If the gloves are lost, damaged, or forgotten then the student will berequired to pay for another pair of gloves at a cost of $2.00.
5. The marching band uniform will be kept at school. Students arrive atschool early to get dresses into their uniform.

For football games, students will take their uniforms to Bailey Fieldand dress there. All students will return to GHS and leave theiruniforms at the school, unless they have permission form Mr. Kirschwith a written note from the parent requesting they not ride back onthe bus. In this case, and this case only, the student is to give theiruniform to the chaperone on their bus so it can be put back in theuniform closet.

For competitions, students will dress into their marching band uniformat school prior to departure and will take off their marching uniformat school prior to going home. For every performance (football andcompetition), the student is to wear their band T-Shirt and shortsunderneath their uniform. This causes uniformity and allows the studentto dress in and out of the marching uniform easily.
6. Students are responsible for all damages to uniforms that occur dueto negligence. This includes dry cleaning if the stains are excessivefrom unnecessary events (such as spilled food or drink from theconcession stand). Failure to have the uniform cleaned by the nextperformance will result in the student not performing until the uniformis cleaned. The student is to notify the Uniform Mom if anythinghappens to their uniform so she can assess the damage and possibly fixit or tell the student what to do.
7. There will be two uniform cleanings provided by the band. Thecleaning will occur after the marching season and over the summer
,
before the uniforms are issued in the fall. The band takes care ofthis. If it needs cleaned prior to the end of marching season, theparent is responsible for this.
8. Parents are responsible for altering their uniforms in the fall.Every effort will be made to put your student in a uniform which fitsbut the uniforms are not tailor made to fit you. Parents may alter theuniforms by hand sewing or paying to have it altered. DO NOT CUT ANYMATERIAL OFF OF THE UNIFORMS. PLEASE DO NOT USE STITCH WITCHERY OR ANYSIMILAR PRODUCT TO ALTER UNIFORMS.
9. There is a fee ($15.00) on the York County School Student Fee sheetat the beginning of the year, which must be paid if your student isenrolled in a high school level band class. This fee goes to offset thecost of dry-cleaning the marching uniforms due to normal use (aftermarching season and in the summer).
CONCERT BAND UNIFORM POLICY
1. Concert Band uniforms will be provided by the GHBPA (Grafton HighBand Parents Association) for each student.

Ladies will wear a black long sleeveless concert dress. Shoes will notbe provided for this uniform. They must be black closed toed formalshoes.

Gentlemen will be provided a pair of tuxedo pants, tuxedo shirt, bowtie, and cummerbund. Black shoes and socks are not provided. Shoes mustbe black dress shoes. NO TENNIS SHOES WILL BE ALLOWED.

No jewelry will be allowed except stud earrings and/or class rings.

The only nail color, which will be allowed will be clear or very lightpink. The nail appearance must be neutral, not colored.
2. Each student will be assessed a uniform fee with Preparatory CourseFees of $25.00. This money will be used to purchase tuxedo shirts forthe gentlemen and garment bags for the young women. It will also beused to repair or purchase new concert uniforms when the uniform isirreparable. This fee will be assessed each year. Each Concert uniformcosts approximately $55.00. If the uniform is lost or not returned atthe end of the school year, a bill for the lost garments will beassessed.
3. All concert uniforms will be kept at home once issued for thatschool year. There is no room to house over 200 concert uniforms and250 marching uniforms. Students will come to school dressed in theirconcert uniform for all concert performances. The uniforms will bereturned to school at the end of the school year cleaned. If playing atgraduation, the student is to bring a change of clothing to the school,so they can change out of the concert uniform and leave the concertuniform at school.
4. Parents are responsible for altering their student’s concert uniformif needed. Every effort will be given to try to fit the student in auniform that is close to their size, but the uniforms are not tailormade to fit them. Parents may alter the uniforms by hand stitching (nomachine stitching, as it will leave a mark) or by paying to have themaltered. DO NOT CUT ANY MATERIAL OFF OF THE UNIFORMS. PLEASE DO NOT USESTITCH WITCHERY OR ANY SIMILAR PRODUCT TO ALTER UNIFORMS.
5. The ladies dresses can be washed, but the tuxedo pants/shirts are tobe dry-cleaned only. Please keep the dress cleaned by washing it in themachine after each performance. DO NOT DRY THE DRESS in the dryer. Justhang it up to dry. If the tuxedo pants need to be cleaned during theconcert season, please have them dry-cleaned. The school will have thepants and dresses cleaned over the summer.
