Calling All Band Photographers!

The Clipper Band students, staff and band parents put in hundreds, if not thousands, of hours each year to produce sounds and sights that consistently win awards. There are many ways to tell this band’s story, and your camera can help us capture them.

For information about photo submissions, resizes, or any other photo question, email Maureen Roth or call her att 766-7642.

Photo Use

We use digital photos on the Website Gallery, End-of-Season DVD (a huge fundraiser) and the Marching Season Poster (another fundraiser).

We also use digital video, from humorous short clips to recordings of full-length performances, on the DVD.

We aim to upload photos to the web gallery soon after the event.   Work on the DVD and Poster take place throughout the marching season, so please don’t wait until games and competitions are over to submit your shots.

Photos of What?

Remember there’s more to the band experience than performances and competitions.

For example, at football games keep your eye out for some candid shots of the kids, staff and volunteers. If you’re a pit parent, try and capture the loads and unloads. At the Yorktown Parade look for a different angle as the band marches by.

Look for shots that are:

- Colorful
- Spontaneous and unposed
- From unusual angles
- Outside-the-box

Photo Size Restrictions

All photos must be resized to no more than 480 pixels per inch vertically.   For example, programs such as Photoshop Elements allow you to resize whole folders of photos at one time.

How to Submit Photos

1. Burn photos on a CD and place in the “band box” in Mr. Kirsch’s office.   Clearly label it “Band Photos – -To Maureen Roth”

2. Email them to Maureen Roth

Please use “Band Photos” in Subject line

Limit each email size to no more than 3 megabytes

Photo Enhancement and Cropping

There are many software programs available to improve digital photos.   Photos that are underexposed, have red eye, or are not sharp can be easily fixed.   Look at your shots and see what can be done to improve them.

Cropping is a great way to get closer to the subject, or to get rid of distracting backgrounds.
